The National Landcare Conference attracts delegates from around the world, and from rural, regional and urban communities in Australia - all with a common purpose: a vision to actively restore and protect the environment in their local community through sustainable land management and conservation activities. Due to COVID-19, we understand that some people may not travel to Sydney this year - so we will bring the conference to you! You can register as an in-person delegate attending the conference or as an online delegate (free registration). Early Bird tickets offering a substantial discount for in-person on sale until May 1, 2021.

WESTERN NSW PRODUCERS JOIN FORCES TO WORK 'WITH MOTHER NATURE' IN NEW SOIL HEALTH INITIATIVE
An exciting new soil health initiative is encouraging producers to identify practical, cost-effective approaches that regenerate the rangelands.
Four properties have signed up to the trial and each will test practices to increase soil carbon, plant diversity and groundcover.
Participating is livestock producer Angus Whyte, owner of Wyndham Station. Angus is an example of a land owner who can be nominated for a General Jeffery Award.
Nominations close March 31, 2021.

VALE GEOFF ELLIOTT PASSES THIS WEEK
This week family and friends farewelled a wonderful champion of Landcare, Geoff Elliott, at a funeral service in Stanthorpe, Qld. Until very recently, Geoff was the Chair of Queensland Water and Land Carers (QWaLC), and a Director of the National Landcare Network, roles he served for many years.

MURRAY-DARLING BASIN HEALTHY RIVER GRANTS NOW OPEN
The Federal Government have announced that Basin farmers, landholders and community organisations can apply for their share in the $6 million dollars worth of grants, which will help deliver practical on ground projects that improve the health of rivers and wetlands in the Murray–Darling Basin.
Applications for the first round of the Murray-Darling Basin Grants will be open until the March 31, 2021.

APPLICATIONS CLOSING SOON FOR NATIONWIDE ELECTRIC FENCING GRANTS
Applications close soon for the 2021 Gallagher Landcare Electric Fencing Grants. Gallagher is continuing its commitment to support projects aligned with the priority areas of conservation fencing and grazing management.
Eligible applicants are invited to apply for an individual electric fencing project grant for up to $8,000, for fencing materials. Applications close 9th April.

THE NATIONAL LANDCARE MOVEMENT WELCOMES THE PARLIAMENTARY FREINDS OF LANDCARE
The National Landcare Network and Landcare Australia celebrated the launch of the National Parliamentary Friends of Landcare Tuesday. This is an important acknowledgement of the beneficial impact Landcare has on the environment, and the role Landcare plays in communities around Australia.
The National Landcare Network and Landcare Australia thanked the Co-chairs, New South Wales Senator Perin Davey and Victorian Senator Raff Ciccone, and their parliamentary colleagues for championing the work of Landcare.

FIVE HEROS GIVE EASTERN COD A NEW START
Motivated landowners have joined together with fishing conservation charity OzFish Unlimited and Landcare Australia to restore habitat of the endangered Freshwater Eastern Cod (Maccullochella ikei).
Two kilometers of the Nymboida river (a perennial stream of the Clarence River catchment) will be recovered where one of the last remaining breeding grounds of a wild population is known to be surviving.
This important work has been made possible by the Australian Government’s Wildlife and Habitat Bushfire Recovery program.

In this webinar Mick Taylor, the Landcare Farming program Manager, talks to Dr. Heather Channon, a National Feral Pig Management Coordinator, and Troy Crittle from the Department of Primary Industries about how to manage and identify feral pigs.
