Energy Savers March 2021 E-News

Welcome to the March 2021 edition of QFF's Energy Savers E-news. To begin the new year on the right foot, we have put together information on new electricity tariffs and how to reduce carbon emission on your farm. Additionally, we are celebrating energy efficient award winning farms and walking you through financing options to implement energy efficiency and renewables.
New load control tariffs

Three new load control tariffs were made available in regional Queensland from the 1st of November 2020. Tariff 34 small business customers, Tariff 60A large business customers and Tariff 60B large business customers. You should carefully consider the suitability of a controlled load tariff for your operations including technical requirements, operational impacts and set up costs.

Energy Savers team in Stanthorpe

The QFF Energy Savers team recently travelled to the Darling Downs to conduct site visits and check in with program participants. They headed to Savina Lane Wines near Stanthorpe, which grows grapes onsite, produces around 12,000 bottles per year of single vintage handcrafted wines, and has a cellar door.

Reducing carbon emissions on farm

Agriculture contributes around 15 per cent of Australia’s carbon emissions, or around 20 per cent when emissions from Land Use, Land Use Change and Forestry are included. There are many ways to reduce carbon emissions on farm including energy and fuel efficiency, reducing synthetic fertilisers, reducing enteric fermentation, improving soil carbon and increasing native vegetation.

Award winning on-farm efficiency

Two Queensland farms were recognised in the Inaugural Best Energy Efficiency Project award at the National Energy Efficiency Awards in November 2020. The farms both demonstrated an integrated approach to energy efficiency, reducing energy consumption through projects aimed at improving water use efficiency through more targeted irrigation.

Financing energy efficiency and renewables

There are a number of funding assistance programs that can help you realise energy efficiency savings on your site including the Energy Savers program co-contribution, low interest loans, banks, demand management incentives through Ergon Energy, and innovation funds. We've put together all the information you'll need to finance your energy efficiency projects on farm.

Energy connectivity and efficiency

Smart farming and precision agriculture involve the integration of advanced technologies into farming practices to increase production efficiency and the quality of agricultural produce. Smart systems rely on connectivity and the sensors capable of capturing the real time, daily, weekly, and monthly data on variables such as energy, climate, and water.
