QUEENSLAND's promised "wet December" may have been slow in coming, but the Bureau of Meteorology's latest mapping shows good rain is on its way for at least some parts of the state.
BOM's eight day forecast map (see above) shows some potentially handy handy falls, particularly for north Queensland and parts of the south east.
However, the forecasts are not so promising for big parts of south west and central Queensland, where only 1-5mm falls are expected during the next week.
Those areas will be hoping to jag some of BOM promised thunderstorms. There is a risk of severe thunderstorms from the Central Highlands through to the south east corner of the state with the potential for local heavy falls, BOM says.
On Tuesday there is a slight to medium chance of showers and thunderstorms in northern and eastern districts, increasing to a medium to high chance over the southern Peninsula.
BOM says there is a risk of severe thunderstorms along the east coast and adjacent inland areas between Bowen and the Fraser Island.
On Wednesday, there is a slight to medium chance of showers and thunderstorms in northern and eastern districts, tending to a high chance over the southern peninsula.
On Thursday there is a slight to medium chance of showers and thunderstorms in northern and central districts.
From Friday to Sunday, BOM says there is a slight to medium chance of showers over much of the state, increasing to a medium to high chance about the north tropical coast and south east coast.
There is the chance of a thunderstorm in northern and western districts, contracting to the north and north west by the weekend.
